busy busy busy!

Busy time!  Today is a relaxation day.  My mom had rotator cuff surgery last week, the surgery went well but she was in a lot of pain afterwards.  The doctor said her rotator cuff was basically shredded, a problem caused by what sounded kind of like a bone spur on her collarbone - so he had to take care of the collarabone also.  She spent three days in the hospital then was transferred to rehab and hopefully will come home tomorrow.  Sunday I worked the Chiefs game, then Monday and Tuesday after work went and worked at Sprint center for the basketball games.  Today - massage at 11, will do a short workout beforehand at the gym.  Then come home and work on the house and Thanksgiving dinner.  Tomorrow - get up, put turkey in oven, then take a walk.  Friday - Kaitlyn wanted to go shopping, we need to figure out what she wants to get.  If we go out, we'll go for specific things and get back home.  Good time for a walk again!  Saturday, working the KU/MU game at Arrowhead, then followed by the Usher concert at Sprint.  I can't say no to those guys!  I enjoy working the concessions - plus Kaitlyn's account is building up pretty quick and she has a lot to do next year.  Her mission trip next summer is out of the country, although we don't know exactly where yet.  She'd like to do the DMA (Drum Major Academy) band camp again - and her high school band will be going on a band trip in 2012 - looks like maybe to either Hawaii or Ireland - so lots of money to raise!  Working concessions is a fun and easy way (for me at least) to do it.  I really like the people I work with and enjoy working with people so it's a good match.
Sunday will be off to church, then home to relax and watch football games.  And a walk!
Next week goes back to 'regular' schedule (whatever that is!)  More walks in at lunchtime and after work.   OH - and I have officially signed up for the walk in DC in September.  More to come on that later!!

Take care - keep in touch - and keep walking with me in spirit!

Socks!

Socks - so necessary.  Whoever thought new socks would take me a step back?  My old socks were just that - old - and I found myself at Target the other day.  I picked up some good socks, after all, walking as much as I have been, I should have good socks, right?  These felt cushiony, had support around the instep and arch - just what I figured would be good for helping the plantar fasciitis.  I picked up some black ones to wear with my black work shoes (Dr. Scholl's - for working at Chiefs and Sprint Center concessions) and some white ones to wear with my good Asics shoes.  Had no problems Sunday at Sprint center, my feet felt rather good considering I'd stood on them several hours straight.  Monday I put on a new pair of socks (no holes in the toes!!) with my Asics.  Took my 2+ mile walk at lunch.  By the time I came home what's left of my little toe on my right foot felt like it was about to come off.  It was a little better today.  I think what happened is these socks are a little too supportive around my little toe - or what's left of it after I shattered it as a kid.  I still didn't want to walk any distance on it today.  Tomorrow I'll go back to the old socks, and see what happens.  Need to walk some - the weekend wasn't good for walking, then the toe issue.

Speaking of tomorrow, I go in for my first follow-up mammogram since the surgery and treatments.  I'm sure everything will be fine, and I'm very glad they're keeping a close eye on everything, but it's still the first mammogram.  There's a little apprehension there, but nothing I can't handle!  After all, I'm pretty busy and that will help.  Being swamped at work has it's advantages - I'm on call after all this week.

I'll let you know what happens - both with the socks and the mammogram!

WALK ON!!!!

A friend from work, Natalie, is walking in the Komen 3-day in San Diego on November 19-21.  She's also a survivor, she had inflammatory breast cancer a couple of years ago.  GO NATALIE!  Please pray for a successful walk for her!

busy busy!

It's been a busy week.  Monday night, I walked up to school for a meeting - told Kaitlyn to meet me there!  Just as I was almost there, saw lightning and heard thunder.  That quickened my pace a little!  But I made the trek in under an hour.  Got to school before Kaitlyn left home.
Worked the election Tuesday - not much walking in that day, just a lot of standing.  Wednesday I did see the neurologist and he told me the numbness in my leg is something to keep an eye on, but nothing we need to do anything about now.  What a relief!  Walked at lunch today, really needed it too....hectic day.
My friend and co-worker Natalie is getting ready to embark on her 3-day walk in San Diego.  She is a survivor of IBC - Inflammatory Breast cancer.  She had a rough time, but is now ready to go.  Natalie - my thoughts and prayers go with you!  Have fun girl!
I'll sign off for now - and tell the ladies to make sure you have your mammograms done in a timely manner!

We're on our way!!

It's time.  It's time to start the blog about my journey over the next year.  Yesterday I got up around 7, then headed out the door at 7:30 a.m. for a walk.  A little over six miles and two hours later I returned home, having logged over 15,000 steps.  I will make it!  I worked at Sprint Center last night for a concert, then at the Chiefs game today (go Chiefs - they won!!).  I worked at the grill portable, which I really liked.  I had fun while working, dancing around while waiting for more customers.  I enjoy interacting with different people and even though I come back home exhausted I've had a great day.  Now it's back to work tomorrow.
Kaitlyn is having a great time with all the comments about her story in the paper.  In case you missed it, go to http://www.kansascity.com/ and search for Kaitlyn Goddard and you'll find it.  It's a good story and the picture along with it is good.  I have such great kids!
I'll work on the blog design when I have time.  Tuesday is the election - I'll be working all day at the polls!  Another chance for interaction with lots of people - I love it!  And to get in more steps, I'll pace the floors and dance around.  What good is work if you can't have fun??
